New Zealand or Aotearoa “the land of the long white cloud” as Maori, the first arrivals called it, lies in the Southern Pacific Ocean, some 1600 km east from Australia.
New Zealand is a very young country, it is also a very beautiful and varied country, ranging from subtropical North to subantarctic South. This is the country of rolling green hills, majestic blue of the ocean, endless deserted beaches, active and dormant volcanoes, geysers and hot mineral springs, crystal clear lakes, towering snow peaks, lush rainforest, and unique flora and fauna.
New Zealand is also the land of Maori people – brave Vikings of the Pacific who created fascinating arts, customs and traditions.
The country consists of two big islands – North and South and a number of smaller ones. The climate is never extreme, so New Zealand is good to travel to year round, New Zealand’ s summer is from December to February.
New Zealand’s territory is a little bigger than Great Britain, with the population of less than 4 mln people.
